Having a sauna room in your home can be a great benefit, particularly when you come home with tired, aching muscles and you just desire to relax. The convenience sure beats going to a gymnasium. But if you're thinking about making a purchase there're a few things that you have to decide on before you'll be ready to buy.

there're three methods to buy one of these units: a regular kit, a modular kit and having one built. Unless you have an extremely dependable carpenter, plumber, electrician and lots of money you may not want to go this last route as it can be very costly.

A regular kit contains a pile of material and instructions. You do all the work, including some cutting. If you're not comfortable taking on this task then this might not be the route to go, either.

A modular sauna room kit has most of the pieces pre-assembled leaving only the large, heavy items for you to do. This generally includes panels, etc. They are quicker to complete and there's little margin for error as it is virtually put together when it arrives.

there's the option of whether to go with an infrared or conventional sauna. More people are turning to infrared due to the heat source and the centralized effect it can have on you though the temperature that is put out is lower.

Conventional tends to heat the whole room no matter how many people are using it and produce a higher temperature. Some people will find these higher temps more harsh. For those an infrared sauna room may just be the way to go.

You have to determine how large of an unit you will require. If it is just you and a significant other then a two or three person unit will do. These are the usual sizes sold to most people. But if you plan on entertaining many in it then you may wish to choose larger. Actually, although you can buy a 12 person sauna, you may find it better to hire to build yours if it must be rather large.

Something that most of the people never consider is the door. Solid doors retain more heat, but some may wish for a glass door to see out of and to permit more light inside. This may be a problem if you plan to use the unit in the nude. Obviously, if you have an indoor sauna your personal nudity in your own home may not be a problem that it could be for an outdoor sauna with windows.

Ensure that your sauna room is made of good, quality substance. Cedar is by far the greatest to use, but is also the most expensive. If you consider the fact that it doesn't warp or rot, repels termites and retains heat well it may be an easy decision for you.
